It is interesting to note that 100 years before WW1 it was common for the defeated to be massacred or sold as slaves leaving little ability for them to raise up again.

The irony is, trying to be more progressive the victors of WW1 changed the German economic position, yet, could not change their philosophical outlook.

And we then have WW2. The question is, was medieval treatment of the defeated, in the long term less violent?

Yes people are more scientifically aware yet they are not aware of their religious ways 'baked into our human cake'.

A good example is a drug trial with a placebo. It works exactly because they believe it will. Because the belief in the authority (the doctors giving them the pill) is so strong.

The chicken sacrifice worked the same way. Put differently 'it was always in them'.
