What students love
“I teach English in Spain. It's the norm for students to call teachers by their first name. It definitely builds a positive culture and relationship with students in the classroom.”

“I go by a first name basis, and I'm the only one in the whole school. The Vice Principal told students to stop, but I told them they could. I just love my first name!”

“I find it funny that here in Brazil we call our teachers their first name or nickname, but the most common is 'teach'. From kindergarten to university, we always call teachers 'teach'. I find it cute and nice.”

“I'm a second-year teacher and love your content. This video caught my attention because I wanted to do this, but was reprimanded. I love that it's allowed at some schools.”

“What a wonderful decision! I stayed home too when my kids were little. Prioritizing family, health, and happiness is always a beautiful choice. Your videos are a gift to educators.”
“I have homeschooled my two kids the last 10 years. I don’t regret one day of my time with them, and it is true that time flies. Enjoy it!”
“I'm also a teacher. It would be nice if you could make an update video about your current situation. Love your videos, they really helped me a lot in my classroom.”
“I love that you’re with your daughter.”
“You contributed to the profession and not just your kids in your school. Job well done. I hope you re-enter education, especially public education.”
“I literally was just told by my team at my first middle school job to stop letting kids call me Miss First Name. I told students either first or last is fine based on their comfort. I did it for exactly as you said.”
What could be better
“I don’t agree with this. This is the most ridiculous video. If you are stating that calling someone Mr. & Mrs. is a sign of dominance, then you should stop teaching. I would not want you to teach my child.”

“If you are able to still be a mentor, this will be beneficial. However, in most cases I've seen, teachers implement this approach and students confuse the relationship and disrespect the teacher.”

“What is wrong with using a formal title? Our society no longer holds respect for elders. Children should respect adults. Teachers are not students' masters, but they should not be treated as equals.”

“When our society was intact, children called elders Mr., Mrs. Now that society has crumbled, why get rid of the last bit of normalcy and formality left? Why not just have students call you by your first name?”

“Dude, you were the reason why I am junior year of a teaching degree... such a jerk to check out now.”

“I don't like it. I don't want to feel like a peer with my teachers. I want clear boundaries. It would have been unthinkable to call your teacher by their first name when I was growing up.”

“As a middle school teacher, it feels disingenuous to see teachers (now former teachers) produce so much content on YouTube about classroom management and then announce they are leaving teaching.”
